Found this photo of my friend Kanoe while looking for a totally different photo. I remember being really pleased looking at these photos after the shoot. Everything just came together, lighting, mood, composition, everything!
It was a good day.

gutter2gutterAll Photos Kate Adams. Full Gallery here

I pretty much grew up on bands like Guttermouth.  Minor threat, op ivy, screeching weasel.  Bands like that.  When i had sublimes 40 oz. to freedom i only liked the bad religion cover on the whole cd.  Things have changed as i got older.  I like that whole album now and listen to all types of music.

Some things don’t change as i saw Guttermouth play on dec. 12th at Annna Banana’s.  They are still punk as fuck!  I got to chat & take a shot with Mr. Guttermouth Mark Adkins right before he got on stage.  Mark had a shot of rum, i had a shot of jager.  We both had coors lights. I also had a Guinness.

Lancifer: So mark thanks for getting me in.

Mark: Sorry. That promoter was being a real douchbag.

Lancifer:  No problem.  So here is your change. $4

Mark: Use it on drinks.  It’s only money right.

Lancifer:  True.

Random guy walks up.  Dude!!! your the lead singer for Guttermouth.

Mark:  That would be me.

Random guy:   I seen you guys at blah blah blah.  Then he starts talking about relationships. (don’t know how)

Mark: Ya i used to have a girl out here. (hawaii) Nice house, real goal oriented, driven.  I was pretty much trophy guy.

Lancifer: Wow what the fuck?

Mark: Yeah i tried it out, but definitely not for me.

Lancifer:  Thank god.

Random guy: Complaining to his chick. “my back hurts”.  Mark overhears it.

Mark: What how old are you dude?

Random dude: 33

Mark: Your a pussy i am 44.

Random guy:  Damn i better man up.

Lancifer butting in:  Fucking oath.

Lancifer: So Mark when you guys going on?

Mark: hmmm right about now i think.

We go up the stairs and as we reach the top i can here the crowd chanting “Guttermouth” Guttermouth”.

Band:  We are going to get started i just don’t know where the fuck our are lead singer is?

Mark takes the stage and tears it to shreds just as i remember him 10 years ago.  He always had a really good stage presence.  Cracking jokes, playing with the crowd.  Always real animated too.  Looks like he’s having fun and it in turn makes you have fun.

How long can he keep this up?  In between songs someone in the crowd asked that same question.  His reply “my goal in life is to do this till i am 60″.  There you go.  God knows he might be in a wheelchair spinning around cursing, yelling, cracking jokes, but if he’s still having fun, why stop?

For more an Guttermouth you can check out a funny ass interview with Drummer Ryan Farrell here at Contrastmagazine.

Dead Trees

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

treebayI guess i am into trees.  This one is taken during the Reef hawaiian pro surf contest.  I was down the beach standing on this jetty.  (see dead tree)  Then i turned around and took this one of the harbor on the other side of the jetty.  (See all the dead trees in there)  It’s funny there was so much going on down at the contest and one of my highlights of the day was looking at dead trees.

If a tree is replaced by a building do we call this progress?

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

treeThis is from a spot on the North Shore called Wailua.  I used to always drive by here and be really happy because it had this great tree alone with the most awesome backdrop.  Sadly the last time i drove by this is what was left.  Signs were erected stating that a new commercial building would be soon taking this space.  Is this progress?
